Albrecht Dürer

Painter, Mathematician, Scholar

Albrecht Dürer, born in 1471, is one of the greatest painters of the Renaissance. At just 15, with the support of his father, he stopped his apprenticeship and devoted himself to art. Pictures such as “Hare”, “Praying Hands” or “Adam and Eve” are as well known as his numerous self-portraits. The film shows Dürer's stations as a painter, graphic artist and artist of engravings and woodcuts. He describes the entrepreneur Dürer, who used the invention of the printing press for his own interests and founded his own sales department with employees. For Dürer, mathematics and art belong together. In search of the perfect proportion and perspective, he shared his knowledge with the world and published the first mathematics textbook in German in 1525. He also created the first star maps of Europe with an astronomer and cartographer, among others. In 1528 he died as a painter, mathematician and scholar in Nuremberg.
