Epidemics such as the cholera or the plague and diseases like the Spanish flu were the causes of the deaths of many people throughout the centuries. The discovery that a lack of cleanliness and poor hygiene might lead to these diseases has triggered an unprecedented fight with bacteria, fungi, viruses and parasites. What actually helps us humans in our fight for health and when might this fight become a useless paroxysm or even turn into its opposite so that we fall ill from it?
