Der Bienenfresser (Merops apiaster) ist ein farbenfroher Zugvogel. Seinen Namen verdankt er seiner Lieblingsspeise: den Bienen, doch frisst er auch andere Insekten wie Hummeln, Wespen, Schmetterlinge oder Libellen. Er lebt in Kolonien und brütet in Höhlen in Steilwänden. Im Ökosystem kontrolliert er als Räuber die Insektenpopulation und gilt als Bioindikator. Der Film zeigt die Merkmale, Lebensweise und Umwelt des Bienenfressers.
