Der Film beschreibt anschaulich und praxisnah die Freisetzung der enormen Energien, die durch Kernspaltung oder Kernfusion als Grundlage der Kernforschung. Experten unterschiedlicher Forschungseinrichtungen erklären Zusammenhänge von Elementen, Materialien, Temperaturen und Drücken, die bei der Kernspaltung oder -fusion entstehen, bzw. notwendig sind, um Funktionsprozesse anzustoßen. Die Experteninterviews wurden in führenden Forschungseinrichtungen geführt – dies erlaubt Einblicke in faszinierende Großexperimente.
