Das Hühnerei ist das bekannteste Vogelei. Nicht nur, dass ihm Küken entschlüpfen, es landet auch als Backzutat im Kuchen, oder als Frühstücksei auf unseren Tellern.
Der Film zeigt und vergleicht die Gelege unterschiedlicher Vogelarten in ihrer Form, Aussehen und ihrer Funktion im Ökosystem. Des Weiteren beschreibt er die Wirkstoffe der im Ei enthaltenen Proteine, Mineralien und Vitamine in seiner Funktion als Nahrungsmittel für den Menschen.
