Continents are continuous expanses of land that are clearly separated from each other by oceans.
\nThe land masses are divided into seven continents:
\nNorth America, South America, Africa, Europe, Asia, Australia and Antarctica.
\nThese continents are constantly moving.
\nAbout 260 million years ago, there was a huge continent which united all large plates of the Earth\u2019s crust.
\nOn this enormous continent called Pangaea, the time of the dinosaurs started about 230 million years ago.
\nPangaea began to break up. Two land masses formed called Laurasia in the north and Gondwana in the south.
\n150 to 70 million years ago, Laurasia and Gondwana broke up further into individual land areas in which today\u2019s continents can already be recognised.
\nBack then, these continents were much closer together.
